Welcome to the Smart-Cure website!


I, Isabella Martas-Mayr, am the CEO and founder of Smart-Cure, a non-profit organization. Smart-Cure’s mission is to improve the quality of life for children and adults suffering from Crohn’s & Colitis while supporting the education of our local youth. 

I would like to give some background as to why I started Smart-Cure. At the age of 2, my sister was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease and has undergone many procedures, shots, and long infusion sessions. Crohn’s is a chronic autoimmune disease. It affects the gastrointestinal tract causing inflammation, internal bleeding, stomach pain, fatigue, malnutrition and a variety of other symptoms. I feel strongly about helping further research and funding for a cure for Crohn's so that people like my sister no longer suffer. 

My passion for helping people, especially children with Crohn’s Disease, and my joy working with young people allowed me to seam together a tutor-supported nonprofit.

  • Juliana Luzi

    COO

    Hello! I am Juliana Luzi, a senior at GHS. I am an honors student with a passion for competitive dance, rowing, and travel. A few of my accomplishments are earning gold in the National Spanish Exam last year and the President’s Award throughout middle school for straight A’s. I also participated in the National Spanish Exam in eighth grade earning a silver medal, received Summa Cum Laude on the CT State Latin Contest and Maxima Cum Laude on the National Latin Exam last year. In addition, I was selected to participate in the NYLF National Security Program in Washington DC this past Summer! I look forward to helping your student develop an understanding in a variety of subject areas and can’t wait to see their improvement!

  • Ainsley Latz

    Seasonal Event Coordinator

    Hello! My name is Ainsley Latz. I am the Seasonal Event Coordinator (SEC) for Smart-Cure. At GHS I am an honor student with a passion for history. History is my favorite subject because I love to learn about how the past has shaped our lives today. I am on the Ski Team and Girls Golf Team. As well as a manager for the girls Cross Country Team in the fall season. One of my favorite activities outside of school is to play with my dog, Burton. Isabella, or Isa as I call her, and I have done XC together since our freshman year of highschool. She has told me about her sister and I have decided to help her make a difference for a better tomorrow. I look forward to this year!

  • Skyla Mund

    Graphic Design & Social Media Chair

    I am Skyla Mund, the graphic design chair with Smart-Cure and I am sophomore at GHS. I love making a difference in our community. I believe that Smart-Cure is doing just that. I was honored to be asked to join the Smart-Cure board. At school, I like taking Math and English classes. I also love taking all the fun electives my school offers. Last year, I discovered my passion for running and since then I have run Cross Country, Indoor and Outdoor Track. I also enjoy reading a good book and crocheting.

    Secretary

    Hi, My name is Sarah Hogan and I am the Tutoring Liaison for Smart Cure! I am currently a junior in highschool and love to play sports like soccer and track and field. Academically, I love science and I am currently doing my own research internship at Trinity College through the ARM program at GHS. Lastly, I also love to go skiing and to the beach. This is my first year at Smart Cure and I couldn't be more excited. This business is something to be inspired by as our team brings together the community to support a good cause. Thank you!
